Treasure Water Resources·Protect Water Environment—US-legends Basketball Team together with the Water Cellar for Mothers

On October 5th, 2013 (GMT), “Treasure Water Resources·Protect Water Environment” — former NBA stars together with the Water Cellar for Mothers hosted by SAFA (Sino-American Friendship Association) and co-hosted by China Women's Development Foundation and World Tourism Cities Federation was held at Intercontinental Beijing Financial Street. U.S. Basketball team led by Rafer Alston, Yao Ming’s former teammate, Jason Williams and Bonzi Wells as well as more than a hundred representatives from all communities in Beijing attended the event, aiming to pass the positive energy of charity events through the basketball spirit.

The Water Cellar for Mothers is a centralized water supply project. It is a charity project implemented by China Women's Development Foundation since 2001 which focused on helping western region people, especially women, to get rid of poverty caused by severe water shortages.

During the event, SAFA played the videos of the Water Cellar for Mothers inside and outside the venue. The U.S. Basketball Team led by Rafer Alston, Jason Williams and Bonzi Wells attended the event. Mr. Peter Zhang, president of SAFA, said that taking the opportunity of holding the 2013 U.S.- China Friendship Basketball Game in Neimenggu, they specially stayed at Beijing to attend this charity activity. They would like to promote the friendship between U.S. and China, and also pay more attention to the development of Chinese charity activities through the communication via culture and sports.

Participated representatives appreciated the opportunity of attending the event highly including Mrs. Kang Leng, one of the sponsors of the Water Cellar for Mothers, Mrs. Zhou Bingde, the honorary adviser of SAFA and other representatives of SAFA, China Women's Development Foundation, World Tourism Cities Federation. They wish that with more and more Chinese and people from other countries, people would have a better understanding of the Water Cellar for Mothers and other Chinese charity events.

 


SAFA president Mr. Peter Zhang and the Us-legends Basketball Team players donated two basketballs with signature and a jersey to China Women's Development Foundation. Players interacted with representatives and small basketball fans by playing basketball games. SAFA vice president Li Li told us that this charity event tonight was not only a combination of the sports culture and charity, but also a development of Sino-U.S. friendship. She said SAFA would like to hold more events in other Chinese cities to promote the relationship between US and China.
