2020 Expert Dialogue on Traditional Chinese Medicine Pandemic Combating Experience Greater New York Special Session

 
Online Video Conference

The Expert Dialogue on Traditional Chinese Medicine Pandemic Combating Experience ---Greater New York Special Session, hosted by the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), co-hosted by the Committee of Medical Collaboration of the Sino-American Friendship Association (SAFA), and the United Alliance of NYS Licensed Acupuncturists (UANYSLA), was successfully held on April 16, 2020. Special Expert Guests invited to this global video conference including Dr. Tong, Xiaolin, Professor Ye, Yongan, and Professor Fang, Bangjiang.

Dr. Tong, Xiaolin is the Director of the Clinical Treatment Expert Group of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Professor Ye, Yongan is the Deputy Director of the National Major Special Responsibility Expert Group for Major Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Technology and the Chief Leader of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine's Epidemic Combating Medical Team to Hubei. Professor Fang, Bangjiang is the Director of the Emergency Medicine Department of Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases of Wuhan Leishenshan Hospital. Coming from the front line of Wuhan and carrying out the treatment of COVID-19 by Chinese medicine, they shared their experience with more than 80 guests, including Chinese medicine scholars from the United States, overseas Chinese, and other Western medical doctors.

The video conference was hosted by Chen, Lixin, Deputy Secretary-General of WFCMS. Organizations participated in this conference included the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in New York, SAFA, UANYSLA, American TCM Society, Massachusetts Society of Chinese Medicine(MSCM), American Association of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture (AACMA), and other Traditional Chinese Medicine organizations in the United States. 

Multiple media agencies also joined the meeting, such as China Media Group, Xinhua News Agency, Phoenix TV (North America), Dragon Television, the China Press, fjsen.com, Sino Vision, China News Service US Bureau, Sing Tao Daily, China Daily, etc.

Sang, Binsheng, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of WFCMS, said in his speech that, in order to better play the role of Chinese medicine for combating the COVID-19 pandemic and to share the experience of using Chinese medicine with other countries, WFCMS has supported and organized an initiative to advocate for the use of Chinese medicine in the global fight against the pandemic. Experts who were on the front line of Wuhan fighting the COVID-19 are encouraged to share their valuable experience in using Chinese medicine, and exchange ideas with international experts and scholars. Sang believed that Chinese medicine would absolutely be an effective weapon in fighting the pandemic and hoped that Chinese medicine could help overseas Chinese to overcome difficulties, help control the spread of the COVID-19, and contribute to global public health.

In his speech, Counselor Zhou, Guolin expressed his support for the online video conference. He said that the United States is now suffering from the pandemic. At this moment of crisis, Chinese medicine has played an important role to control the corona virus. He hoped that through this online video conference, colleagues in the field of Chinese medicine from the United States could learn from China's first-hand experience to fight the COVID-19 in the local region of the United States.

During the conference, with greatdetails and valuable experience, Dr. Tong, Xiaolin, Professor Ye, Yongan, and Professor Fang, Bangjiang all answered questions from Dr. Lin, Rongsheng, Vice Chairman of the Council of WFCMS;Peter Zhang, President of SAFA; Dr. Ting Bao, member of the Committee of Medical Collaboration of SAFA and Director of Integrative Breast Oncology of the New York Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center; Li Li, Executive Vice President of SAFA and Director of the Committee of Medical Collaboration; Dr. David Li, President of UANYSLA; Tian, Haihe, Vice Chairman of WFCMS Board of Supervisors; and Hu, Jun, President of AACM
