2017 Empowering Women and Sustainable Development Summit in Los Angeles

On June 21,2017 Empowering Women and Sustainable Development through Arts and Crafts Exhibition and Gala Dinner was hosted by the China Women’s Development Foundation (CWDF) and the Sino-American Friendship Association (SAFA) at the Universal Studios Hollywood.

The international list of distinguished attendees included Sun, Lushan, Deputy Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles, Amanda Daflos, Director of Innovation Team of Mayor’s Office of Budget Innovation, Jackie Filla, Commissioner with the Commission on the Status of Women Los Angeles, Huang, Huijuan, Deputy Director of Public Communication Department of China Women’s Development Foundation, Peter Zhang, President of Sino-American Friendship Association, Li Li, President of Cimagine Media Group and Executive Vice President of Sino-American Friendship Association, Kim Weedmark, Vice President of Universal Studios, Zhang, Zhaoda, Vice President of the World Association of Chinese Artist and other special guests.

Sun, Lushan, Deputy Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Los Angeles highlighted the importance of empowering women and sustainability in the opening ceremony. He said: "China Women’s Development Foundation and Sino-American Friendship Association help the Chinese women who are in poverty to lead a better life. So I have to take this opportunity to express my respect for their long-term efforts in pursing charity and promoting the culture exchange. "

The China Women Development Foundation awards prizes to institutions and individuals who contribute and support social public welfare
 
The China Women’s Development Foundation brought 10 pieces of arts and crafts including the oil-paper umbrella, the Chinese lacquer tray, the Guang embroidery- red thrush, the Tibetan embroidery, tie-die crafts to the charity auction. All proceeds from the auction were donated to the Chinese charities. The evening was a memorable night as guests dined together and shared ideas with each other to show their support of empowering women everywhere.
 
While in Los Angeles, the delegates of China Women's Development Foundation and the executives of the Sino-American Friendship Association visited the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Office and had extensive exchanges with the City of Los Angeles Commission on the Status of Women.

The CDFW delegates also traveled to Seattle to visit the Starbucks Headquarters and learned about Starbucks corporate philanthropy programs. Afterword, they visited the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
